Influences of Gothic Clothing on European Dresses

In the previous passage, I told you something about influences of gothic clothing on French clothing, especially women’s clothing in France. Today I will continue telling you the great impact of gothic clothing.

The first one is cotardie, just like what I introduced in the last picture, it was worn outside and had a dress look. It is said it appeared in Italy first. The bodice and waist were in skinny fit cutting and there was criss cross or straps at front. Special decorations were added on the elbow, they were colorful cloth called tippers for the draped look. Sometimes tippers were very long and they were popular among Italians.

Surcotouverts are transformations of surcots which were popular in the fourteenth century. Usually, people dressed them out of the cotardies. The function of them is to adorn the nice shape of the body, so many jewellery, gold, silver and fur were added. The main feature of them are big roll cuffs. As its length, the bottom hemline was put on the floor, just like trains of long dresses in nowadays.

Influences of Gothic Clothing on Clothing In Medieval Times

Looking through the history, we can draw a conclusion that clothing in medieval times are greatly influenced by gothic clothing, especially the clothing of France, ranging from the view of beauty to the creation of clothing. Generally, you can find affluent gothic elements in their clothing, such as hats, blouses, pants and shoes.

Today I will introduce you its influences in women’s clothing in early times. First is the cotte, which is a skinny coat in ancient Mediterranean area. Women’s cotte are loose on bodice and the upper half of the sleeves, the left part are tighten and adorned with buttons.

Chemise is a kind of underwear which is made of white linen. The cuffs are tightened with delicate embroideries and ribbons.

Next is surcot. It is said the coat was worn on the cotte in war times. The materials mainly are silk or cotton. The bust and skirt are loose, which is quite charming. Sleeves are in various length, such as long and short. In addition, surcots with no sleeves were most popular in that time. Delicate embroideries can be found on collars, sleeves and busts.

Fascinating Gothic Lolita Clothing

In general, gothic lolita clothing is popular among young people, especially girlrms to clothing, it imitates dresses in Victorian court, which is a perfect mixture of innocent lolita clothing and dark gothic dresses. It became popular in Japan since 2000.

Gothic lolita looks quite luxury. The clothing is in dark color, hair is dark or in light colors; the makeup look pale with black eyeshadows, besides, silver ornaments are necessary, such as crosses, the wings of angles, roses, spiders and so on. Other designs such as cats, vampires are popular, too!

In Japan, gothic lolita clothing is not only a branch of lolita clothing but also a dressing style. Girls wear dark lolita clothing and have a mysterious look, which expresses mystery, fantasy and death. Their props usually are special, such as huge swords and powerful crosses. It seems a little like cosplay clothing. Delicate girls with improper props look quite strange, the sense of imbalance is a theme of gothic lolita. Broken dolls or toy bears are often seen in the hand of expressionless girls, which implies great terror and despair.

Wearing gothic clothing don’t mean that you are a member of gothic kingdom. You should change all your appearance and there are several tips.

First, your hair, face and clothing. It is simple to change your style, you can refer to magazines and pictures on the internet. You can go to clothing shops and barbershops.
Then is your expression. It must look hopeless and painful and the same thing goes with laughters. To gothic people, smiles make you silly and stupid.

Next, you can bore a hole on some part of your body and put some adornments there.
Of course, gothic is not only a fashion but also a lifestyle, which reflects unusual darkness. For example, you can keep a rodent animal, such as a mouse; even you can buy a coffin as your new bed, isn’t it cool?

It is easy to get a set of gothic clothing, but it is hard to have your own gothic hair style. Now I teach you how to make your gothic hair style at home in an easy way!

The main feature of gothic hair style is black or light hair, straight or curly style.So we can make our gothic hair styles with these factors.

If you are a boy, you can make your hair straight and dye it black or other light colors. The hair should cover your forehead and half of your cheeks.
If you are a girl, you can cut your bang with bias-cutting. Long hair can be straight with a little bright colors or it can be weaved with a vintage look. By the way, nice wigs are popular too.
